Jessie's Gumdrop - Day 06

So now that the case parts are off at the pro painter's shop I decided to knock out what I could while I wait for them to be done. I needed to paint the case buttons and the UV lamp inverter. Have you ever seen such a sick blue color in your life? I dont mean that like "sick dude" as in cool, I mean it like as in I wanted to vomit. No way was I putting that in the case, hidden or not.

Picked up a respirator for paint/pesticide, and a can of Krylon gloss black and grey primer

slapped in some tunes...

I think blue painters tape has to be one of the best manufatured items ever made. It sticks and blocks paint, yet doesnt leave glue after removal, and as I found out, if you score it ever so slightly, you can shape it without damaging the piece you are trying to protect. blocked off the connector slots on the uv inverter using only a razor...

taped the pieces down to a pice of cardboard and got a latex glove and the respirator ready...

krylon primer dries in ten minutes but you can flash coat things after a minute. this is two coats of primer

after the second coat I noticed a box that my wife brought home from her office. It had eyes looking thru the handle at me, so I took this pic. That aint our kid! It was kinda creepy - made a note to self to ask her about that

after 3rd coat of primer

after 4th coat of primer (sorry bright)

I let the pieces dry for like 20 mins and had a close look in some bright sunlight. they seemed to have developed some "fuzz", so I sanded them very lightly with some 400 wetordry, then used a piece of blue tape to "tack" the dust off since I didnt have a tack cloth. Then I used some coffee filter to scuff around for good measure, this is the result

Kolor time - dont touch this
this is two dust coats of black gloss

this is after the third coat

4th coat, starting to look nice and shiny

4th coat again, looks wetter than it really was, I guess its the reflections

4th coat again, parting shot. I will pull the tape in a few hours, befoe it sets too much.

Well thats it for today. That was my first time painting - it was fun but I can see how it can seriously become a PITA to do it right and keep crap out of the finish. I am glad I tried it tho. I'll see how the parts look in few hours - thanks for reading
