Default [Guide] TRUE bolt-through mod / high pressure mount mod

I'm posting this very brief pictorial/mod walkthrough at the request of some folks in another thread.

This has been posted before in numerous threads but since so many folks were just asking for a consolidated process log, I figured I'd make a dedicated thread so as to be able to point to it in the future

...

Seems there are more than a few TRUE owners out there who are not happy with the stock mount pressure provided by Thermalright's hardware.

This is how you completely eliminate that problem.

*NOTE: I actually first did the bolt through mod on my old cooler, a Scythe Infinity, which *really* needed it since it's stock mounting was Intel push pins. That's why, in the first photo, you see an Infinity cooler as opposed to the TRUE. Nevertheless, the process is the same.

**NOTE: In the below pictures, you will see that I also employed the very popular "washer mod". I found that using the washer mod as well as the bolt through was beneficial since the washer added some extra height to the bracket, thereby keeping the bracket from contacting the motherboard/lockdown screws.

The main thing is making sure you have the right hardware to do the mod.

...

1. Here's a brief overview (literally) of the hardware you'll need:

(Insert a mental picture of your TRUE where the Scythe Infinity is shown! )

2. Re: Backplate:

Just use any old backplate you can find. And yes, you will have to drill out the existing holes so that you can fit your bolts through them.

...

3. Where to get the gear:

I combined a couple of different sources.

First, I ordered a danger den water block mounting kit from Petra's tech shop which provided the springs and some of the nuts and washers:

...

Here's a link to the kit at Petra's..

Seems to be currently out of stock but at least you know what your looking for now.

...

4. Other sources of Hardware:

Otherwise, ... you can find the bolts and really just about everything else you need at your local Ace hardware (or the like), including springs.

Like I said, I combined the above kit with some bolts and extra nylon washers that I picked up at my local hardware store.

I didn't like the Petra's bolts cause they weren't terminated with a 'head' of any kind and I didn't want to have to eyeball the length. Just get some 1.5" bolts as depicted in the first photo.

5. Otherwise?:

Otherwise ...

Just put it all together as shown here:

That's about all there is to it.

If, like me, you hate the fact that your TRUE will spin at the slightest touch ...

And if, like me, you found the washer mod alone to be inadequate to the task of locking your cooler in place ...

And, if you want the absolute best mount pressure possible with your TRUE ...

Then do the above mod ASAP.

Works like a magic trick.
