Greenie-poo - Day 03 - front panel work
needed a 7 x 3.5" piece of green acrylic to act as a "window" piece for the front panel upper 2 holes. clamped a piece of left-over sheet from the side panels and cut the width

then took off the excess height to form the piece

marked off the centers for the three 3" holes that will be in the front panel. used the drill press to make pilot holes

the lower hole in the front panel will be a fan opening for an 80mm green led fan, marked off the screw hole locations using a spare wire grille I had laying around

forgot to tape the panel before marking so I had to improvise

holesaws...

:

drilled pilot holes for the fans and the green acrylic mounts in the black panel using the drill press

I decided to get clever and mounted the green panel to its position on the black panel, then flipped it, and reran it thru the drill press, using the existing holes in the black panel to cut the ones in the green

saves guesswork and guaruntees they will line up later. All I did from here was flip the panels you see and ran the drill press thru the existing holes

after that I had to use a regular drill with a 9/64 bit to open the pilot holes to the right size to allow 6-32 screws to pass thru clean for final mounting of the small green panel to the inside of the black front

after that I passed 1/2' 6-32 screws up thru the black panel to check that the green small panel lines up. these 1/2" screws will be replaced by 3/4" and star caps in final assembly.

win

just to give you an idea of the green hue and the black contrast that the case will have when done

(dont mind the smears on the green, it was just a color test and was filthy

)

I will be selling the dremel drill press and replacing it with a good one. Its ok but too "toyish" for my taste. its flimsy and a bit inacurate. I can get around these issues but it begins adding work and time to the project, time I dont have. Look for me to have a new drill press soon
The back and top panel cuts will need to wait until I have the pc parts here
more soon.
