Greenie-poo - day 05 - psu cut out, switch holes, bottom vent
got ready to cut out the psu fan opening...

done. then took the panel down to m2h south and put her on the scroll saw...

done. (did some filing after this to clean it all up)

switch test. largest drill bit I had was 1/2", but the switch barrel is 5/8. I was about pass on this for today, and pick up a 5/8" drill bit (with 3/8" drive) when I scoped my loose holesaws (swearing to myself that the smallest I had was 7/8") I had 5/8"!

tested in scrap (bad pic, better ones coming)

marked off the centers for the two ring-led switches

locked down...

removing 1/4" acrylic rings from a 5/8" holesaw is NOT FUN at all, trust me

done.

test fit (teh sehx

)

decided to actually test fit the psu cut outs, which I fogot to do earlier. good thing I did, the top of the cutout needed some filing, and the lower right screw hole needed some "convincing" before everything would line up

planar and corner testing of bottom an back

perspective

what the heck, slap on the right side panel for some more perspective. looks huge but it aint, trust me

while I was mucking around with that stuff I accidentally noticed a vent on the bottom of the psu. me being one not to mess with stuff that seems like its needed, I decided to open a vent hole in the bottom panel. marked it off (with psu rotated up 90 degrees as if on hinges, to show alignments)

found an appropriate holesaw (1 1/8") from the cool little Rigid kit. I wasnt about to cut out the perfect rectangle, 85% flow is fine methinks

locked down

realigned the panel to the psu and flipped them for the pic. seems good to me

next steps will be to make a mock up riser set for the mobo, and get the back panel opening marked and cut. After that it will be cube welding and assembling of the black parts of the box (top, front, bottom, back) then I can get my locations for the side panel screw holes. From there it will be onslaught to the end. I am hoping to acomplish this stuff during this week after work (fatal last words) so I can have next weekend to get it all done before Jess comes over on Sunday
thanks for watching
