Greenie-poo - Day 13 - back panel additions

As I outlined in a previous post, I am not quite done cutting out the back panel. First thing was the wifi riser card opening for the antenna. prepped up the panels...

after making the mark, I found the right drill bit

just as I got ready to do some drillin' one of may favs came on (turn it up, guzzle a beer)

made a pilot with 9/64, then loaded the big boy bit for the final hole. not much material between so this was gonna be a low pressure drill-out

couple minutes later, nice hole with no panel cracking

thats the little wifi riser

thats the spot it mounts into, in the gap to the left of the audio ports

mounted

hole alignment was perfect except there was a depth issue due to the gold nut on the shaft, and also the barrel of the antenna was wider than the hole as well. Seeing as there wasnt much material left towards the audio ports, drilling a larger diameter hole wasnt looking too good, when in doubt...

...prep for cutting loaded the dremel plastics cutoff wheel

clamped the work

cut a slot between the audio IO and the io bricks to the left

would have liked a hole as opposed to the slot solution but, hey, we cant have it all. test fit...

win

this week I need to figure out the led feet switch and the ccfl switch. I think I am going to order a couple of mini paddle toggles so I can do simple holes in the back panel, as opposed to squared cuts because both current pci bracket switches are sqared. Also the 1/4" acryl is too thick for the switches so Ill prolly have better luck with cylindrical spst shafts meeting the required depth I need. cheers mates.

thanks for watching
