Update time.

I got the res remount sorted. It turned out to be a bit more complicated than it had to be, but I wanted to keep it all completely internal. It would have been much simpler to just saw a hole in the top of the case, and mount it there; but I wanted to keep the top panel of the case easily removable.

Here's the latest re-re-configuration of the pump tray:

from the motherboard side:

and from the opposite side:

Here's a top shot. I had a little extra space, so I pre-drilled holes for switches. I'll probably wire that one up for the pump, but the other holes are there if I ever need them for anything:

The mounting plate is 2mm thick aluminum, and I set it off from the main mounting bracket with custom length spacers:

The spacers allow for maximum mounting height of the res, while still allowing the case top to seat cleanly. Here's the clearance:

The pump got moved, and I'll be using the optional front outlet on the EK top now:

Mounted it with the supplied hardware from EK, through HD grommets seated in 5/16 holes drilled in the tray floor:

Here's a closeup of the plumbing on the res outlet. The res is seated over an inch higher now, with almost twice as long a run to the pump:

Here's the system return to the res. The doubled up 90's are a bit cludgy, but It was the best solution I could come up with:

So that's that. I'm going to plumb it all now and see how it fares. I'll try to post some more pics later with the tubing installed.

Wish me luck.
