Butcher's Hook - Day 04 - Welding Salvage

stopped by the x-pop-in-law's garage and found my service panel
the breakers are labelled left:
100 (double bay)
70 (double bay)
15 (single)

and on the right
20 (single)
20 (single)
15/15 (split single)

any electricians wanna help me out? I need a 220 and a hi amp 110 run from this panel to my garage anyway...

more stupidity with the uprights, used a dremel to grind a line

adjusted the amps down to see if I could ablate less metal and fix up these welds
seems to be better

butter drops

side track for a second - theres the drill press in the basement workshop for the first time - ok sorry, back to the action

not too bad, still some pits

decided to try what I meant to the other day - 5/64 rod at full amps in a corner joint...

BOOOYAH! and your grandma! Not perfect but finally butter across both sides! no sticking up or down (except for the start if the weld where I could barely strike an arc - its hard to start the arec on 5/64 than it is on 1/16)

got happy, decided to try more, lined up some more scrap

I didnt pic the previous one, it came out good, but I went off line due to the angle, but the weld bead stayed where I drifted so thats awesome news, set up a new scrap on a different angle

wide gap, much like the welds I am currently working on...
ROLLED DIMES (5/64 stick at 100 amps)

and your grandma!

I have to get more 5/64 sticks pronto!
I can physically feel the difference when using them as opposed to 1/16. When I first bought the welder it came with 5/64, they were hard to stike arc, and since I was still learning I opted to use 1/16's. Now that I have some experience, and know what to expect, and have encountered varying situations, I realize that 5/64 is a great tool for certain welds, where 1/16 is a better tool for others. Live and learn

I will get some 5/64 and finish this puppy. I might run a bead of it along the upright sections that have been killing me, just for good measure
thanks for watching
