Thanks a ton fellas
The well wishing definitely motivates, and at present, I needs it. badly.
I started efforting the perforations for the side panels. I discovered that not all Lian Li perforation patterns are created equal. They actually have some that are more tightly spaced (more open area) than others. One of the "others" happened to be a section from the back of my donor A16, so I used it as a template to make my template:
What I'm drilling into is a 1/8 inch thick plate of aluminum. This I'll use to transfer the final pattern to the case sides.
When I finish a section, I use two spare 3mm bits to align the first template to the next:
edit: Here's a shot of the backside of the finished template. Just a little filing needed. Looks like a cheese grater:
edit: Here's what the finished product was on a panel:
It's a laborious process. I figure there's ultimately going to be something in the neighborhood of 1350 holes in each side panel. The tedium is also not helped any by a hellacious head cold I picked up somewhere. The whine of the drill is the perfect frequency to resonate in the crud in my ears. Not fun lol.
Anywho, I have to take frequent breaks for battery swaps and to let the drill cool down. So, slow going. Hopefully when done the weather will be cooperating and I should have some pseudo finished shots of this beast for y'all before the weekend is out.
