Butcher's Hook - Day 08 - frame went vertical

set up the frame in the big clamp to weld the right upright, then thought better of my position

more sense this way

after it was tacked I stood it up to start the welds but noticed the two uprights tended to come together as they rose, so I used a block of wood to square it. This is where the tacking technique suggested by Rado and approved by Syrillian really came in handy. I was able to adjust parts with the "give" without losing their overall positions

welding ensued

yeah baby

time for the 45d braces

got them tacked. wondering why the door is shut?

while it down-poured I got started on the next major step, drill and tap the trolley rail assembly

clamped

drill for 1/4-20 and tap fluid

drilled out the lower set

now thats a tap . got some temp 1/4-20 bolts from the hw store. I will use socket allen black oxides for finals but for mockups these will do

tapped thru the uprights

then I overbored the trolley rail to 1/4 to let the bolts pass thru it, screwing into the uprights only

final overbore in trolley rail, upper set. also I drilled the 1/4-20 bit thru the topmost joined sections in the uprights (where the 2" part joins the long upright beam) this will allow me to run wires up thru the uprights and snake them over the top but hidden inside (similar to a motorcycle frame) to have lighting in the top section without the wires being seen. Hard to explain but youll see as it progresses

hawt

time to knock out the 45d open face welds...

everything welded and done, pic from back

right front

cameo

front left

the frame is done minus weld grinding, and touch up sanding etc. On sunday I will attack those remaining tasks, and begin on the mobo panel, and star

thanks for watching
