Butcher's Hook - Day 28 - star

The Sam-Master's work

On the left is the alu test, on the right is the 1/4" steel real deal

laid the steel one in my mdf jig just to see if I was ever on the right path, you decide

mounting bar is 1/4" steel to match the star (3/4" wide)

let us cut. decided to do 45d angles instead of 40

something like that cut to 9" on the wide side



getting the pilot holes done using the drill for a 10-24 tap (#25 iirc?)

after I had the pilots I clamped the bar to the frame





drilled thru with the same bit

tapped out for 10-24



over-bored the bar to 3/16" holes so 10-24 screws pass thru. test fitted



used some of the 1/4" bar scraps to raise the star and size up for what came next

ready to tack the base. raised the star on the 1/4" scraps again which centers it on the 3/4" bar, height-wise. wasnt taking any chances on the uneven floor so I used the back of the mdf star template

after 4 tacks (2 front 2 back) I got brave and decided to go for it and do 2 inside welds

let us absorb...













the welds need cleaning but they are strong. I grabbed the top of the star and was able to tilt the entire frame towards me without any welds bending or snapping

just need to clean up the welds and sand the frame a bit, and ship it off to chrome
major-work-wise, this sucker is done. the finale' is soon to come
