I'd suggest reading/studying this thread before digging in to heavily, http://www.overclock.net/amd-general...ing-guide.html it will give you a real good idea as to how to OC and in what order, plus it'll give you a path to follow and save a few headaches as well. For your ram choice I very strongly suggest you make sure it's on the QVL (Qualified Vendors List) available at the Asus web site under downloads, to make sure it will be compatible with the Formula as it can be picking about what ram to use. The CHIV can run 2000MHz ram no problem, but it does take a little work, I run 1600MHz OC'd to 1672MHz and have had it up to 1733MHz without any problems at 7-8-7-24-1T timings. So to answer your question yes 1600MHz ram will work at stock settings just fine. (check my rig sig for what I'm using) Just an FYI, do all your OC'ing in the bios, no utility overclocking. You may also find a lot of good info in the ASUS Crosshair IV Formula/Extreme Club thread. Good group and easy to get good info from. I'm always happy to help if you need it, and don't be afraid to PM me if you like. |
