Slow Progress Better Than No Progress

Well, it's day two and I am light years ahead of where I was yesterday as far as learning how to overclock my old Compaq. I downloaded speedfan, but haven't used it yet. Just waiting on my fans before I try any OC. I am a chicken. I found a lot of old material on OC of AMD Athlon XP processors. Not like I'm trying to reinvent the wheel. Turns out, OC software has more instability than tweaking the hardware. One more reason not use speedfan.

Here are my system specs:
CPU AMD Ahlon XP 2600+
Motherboard A7N8X-VM
Memory 1 GB (2-PQI Series 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM)
Graphics Card integrated GeForce4 MX
Hard Drive 120 GB
Sound Card onboard C-media 8738 aud contrl 6 channel pci
Power Supply 250 watts
Case compaq Presario S4110CL
OS XP home 2002 ed. sp3
Monitor HP 2009m

Posted my question and atleast two replies said I may be able to do this. ENCOURAGING!
