Default Big Typhoon question

Hey guys,
I'm about to install the big typhoon in the next week. Now to my questions: Do I have to remove my motherboard to install it? Some people tell me yes,,,some tell me no. Others say it depends on the m/b backplate. So could you clear this up for me? I'd appreciate it!

Thanks!

In short..yes, you will have to remove the motherboard. To install the Big Typhoon you need to put an included backplate on the backside of the motherboard.

Default Instructions

I'm looking at the instructions online and it says for standard K8 Installation that you do NOT have to remove the m/b and that you do NOT need to install a backplate. It simply says not to remove the backplate on your m/b. You only have to install a backplate if installing for K7 or LGA775.

According to the instructions that came with mine, you don't need to on K8 if your board has a metal backplate. They recommend doing it if you have the plastic one, though it is still not needed.

You DO NOT have to remove it with your mobo/processor setup

Check the screw length carefully, with the original back plate some have stripped the screws!

I already had a metal back plate and I did not remove my mobo or change out the back plate while installing my big typhoon on my opty folding rig last month.

Beware though that getting at the screws required me to remove my PSU.
That said even if you do remove the mobo whats the big deal? I change out and swap my mobos around at least once every couple of months. Of course I have several active rigs in the house but still whats the big deal? In fact I rather enjoy it

And if you don't enjoy it, you might want to question why you are building your own rig in the first place.

Does anybody know if I will have to remove my mobo if I get a BT?
