Default Zalman 9500 AM2 Temps...

Ok, so I've been reading other peoples posts on the Zalman and my temp. seems a little high. I might've put too much AS5 on the CPU. Please let me know if these temps seem a little of.

Idle: 29-30C
Load: 50C

Room Temp: 24C

Specs are in my sig.

Thanks

Those temps are by no means horrible, but I think they should be a little lower with that Zalman. How much AS5 did you use?

Since this was my first build, I'm pretty sure I put too much on there. If I were to clean it off and reapply how much of a difference could it make? 5C? Also can I use a microfiber cloth and rubbing alcohol to clean it off?

It depends on how much extra you put on. AS5 is only intended to fill the air gaps. A grain of uncooked rice is plenty of AS5.

I'd get either an Arctic Cleaner package, or 99% isopropyl alcohol, which you can get at walgreens and probably other drugstores. That cloth will work fine. And be very careful when cleaning the CPU. Only put on a drop at a time, try not get any cleaning solution or AS5 over the side, and wait at least an hour before putting any current the components.

20°C difference between idle and load seems a hell of a lot.

Scrape the top off the cpu with an old credit card, then smooth it down so your core has a thinfilm of AS5 on it, put a plastic bag or cellophane over your finger and remove it from the heatsink. Then give it a slight twist before clipping it in place.

Thats looking a little hot IMO. As said there is rather a jump between Idle and Load temps. I would remove the heatsink and clean off the thermal compound off the heatsink and cpu and then reapply a BB sized amount of AS5 and reseat the HSF.
