YES ... you *can* change the 9500's fan ... and *yes* it will be on par with the noctuas and the tuniq's if you do so ...

check my sig for more details on the modification process.

Also consider the fact that you are using a BTX-like setup, whereas all of the test results that I've seen are pure ATX setups. Don't know if that makes a difference in the results, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

DontMakeMeEatYou, why would you bother testing the TT120 with the TTBT? It's already a widely accepted fact that the TT120 posts better temperatures... Why retest just to prove something that is already known?
Upsidedown ATX. It probably gets a few degrees off because of the wind tunnel design. The 9500 is a great cooler, but only if you have a case that works well with it. A case that has a 120mm rear fan very close to the 9500, and intake fans that are near as well.

I have Noctua NH-U12F. It's BEAST! Just for fun I put it on P4 Prescott. 4800Mhz 1.62V.. 68C Load... Put then CM Hyper6+ - 82C and blue screen. TT Big Typhoon - 73C. TT Sonic Towe + 120mm TT - 78C. Scythe Infinity - 74C. In my country nowhere have the Tuniq to test... Noctua is best for extreme power consuption. In 65W Sempron The others may beat it... The 2x120mm fans with the package are very quit, dont hear them.

funny . i recently did a similar review as the OP's except i compared the modified zalman 9500 with an infinity using the same fan ...

my findings, ironically enough ... were almost identical the OP's ... about a 7 degree improvement and way more quiet.

I got a question. When you setup a p5b-deluxe with the noctua nh12, can you still mount a memory cooler like the ocz XTC?

From the pictures in the startpost, I would say yes.

(i'll take that as a compliment)

...

it test fairly well running against an infinity with the same fan ... but the low speed settings on the infinity completely owned it.

(how i miss her, though)

check my sig for the review of the ghetto zalman against an infinity:
