Oh woe is me!! Waited a week for my new cooler to get here, rushed to the shop and installedl it, and fired up the PC. Now my temps are worse than those of my stock cooler. Was idling at 54C with stock cooler(OC to 2.7) and now it's idling at 58C. Thought I might have done something wrong, like too much AS5, so I re-installed it, made sure it was seated properly etc. Now what?

Put your stock cooler back on and ship me that obviously defunct 9500, I'll even pay shipping.

I get 34-35c idle temps on my duo 2 with the zalman which is FAR beter then stock, also it takes about 200 hrs for the as5 to settle in, after a week or so my temps dropped from 40c idle to 34c idle, I aint making that up either, so give it time and barely use any as5

Questionable assertions. Might as well say all core 2 duos suck since some are defected.

Sounds like you have that thing seated wrong. I have on on my intel system. My idle temps stayed the same but my load temps dropped 10C. Do you have the thing on the fanmate controller or directly into the motherboard?
BTW: the Big Typhoon is so much better...my idle temps are 27C and full load never gets above 40C on hot days...and this is at 2.45ghz.

If you are using the fan speed controller that comes with it you are limiting the fan speed. As soon as I removed mine and went directly to the mobo, my load temps went down by a good 4-5C. Using it with the BIOS auto fan speed adjust and its workin great. Throw that controller in the garbage.

Sounds to me that you have it incorrectly installed. You shouldnt be getting temps like that using that cooler. Make sure that when you apply the AS5 you are only using a rice grain amount and no more or no less. However when reapplying new thermal compound make sure you have cleaned the Bottom of the heatsink and IHS of the CPU.
