Recovering a damaged core.... absolutely brilliant... having the stones to take a soldering iron to 90 NANOMETER technology.... priceless.

Hey proser.

Tell me (I cant tell from the pic) - were the leads (contacts ) on the TRANSISTOR, still outside / visible?

I understand they were severed... but-
could you see clearly what you were going to .. mend (the two ends)?

Personally - if you couldnt.. I cant imagine how you did what you did! :|

I am trying to find the pics... they should still be availbe on imageshack... but yes your could physically see the gouge in the breached leg. However, it was nearly impossible to tell whether or not it had been completely severed. Thus the use of the MM.

As a side corrollary.... 1 year later, and the rig is still 24/7 stable (see 939 appreciation club for CPUz val) and is my main rig for media, surfing and downloading

edit: for the Grim

I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering--how did you attach the needle to the tip of the soldering iron? Not expecting a response since it's such an old thread...but hoping...

very, very, very carefully. Actually, I used some steel gauge line, used as leader for fishing line... that with a vicegrip and pliers to pull tight. It wasn't super stable... but it did the job
