Default Advetures In Noobage: I screwed up! Now What!?!? (part II: the redemption)

(This was previously posted on Xtremesys, by me, cuz I couldnt get on to OCN because my ISP hates me)

CPR 101: Capacitor Pack Rescue

The Culprit (the larger furry one! )

The Victim:

The Rescue Team:

BEGIN DISCLAIMER:
I am not an electrical engineer. I do not even have fundamental knowledge of complex electrical devices nor their intricate architecture. My electrical theory would be rudimentary...if I had any to begin with (besides not to toy with live current while standing in the bathtub...and even thats a little iffy). In fact, I am a moron. Should you take any of the statements henceforth as either sound technique or practical theory...than you too, are a moron.
END DISCLAIMER:

Last night I embarked on the perilous journey of trying to revive my CPU from the OCing abyss. After removing my IHS, my lovable family pet decided that he would impart a few mods of his own...his theory is far better than mine, but he lacks the tactile ability (read: hands) to execute in practice. No really...I swear the dog did it . Anyway on to the rescue

1. Taking a look at the offending photo...one can see that there was in fact a fair amount of TIM spread liberally around the PCB and outlying Capacitors/Transistors (not really sure...I thought transistors, but eddieate begs to differ...and I defer to him). Furthermore...I was actually shocked by just how much AS5 and other crud had migrated to the periphery of the chip.
I applied Articlean 1 (emulsifier) and 2 (purifier) with a swab. I repeated this step three times for good measure and because I am severely OCD. For those of you scoring at home, give yourself 1 point if you suggested giving the chip a good ole' washdown.

2. Though it is difficult to discern from the picture...I was unable to tell whether the nearest leg was completely severed from the pack. However, what I could see with a magnifying glass was that part of the leg had mashed down and was bridging to the leg adjacent to it. Using a sewing need, jewelers eye piece and a bit of patience I scraped away the fatigued metal until it seemed that the gap was in fact clean. I then swabbed the pack three times, again because I have no clue what I am doing but three is a prime number

3. It was near impossible to tell, even with the jeweler's eye whether or not the leg itself had been completely severed. I decided to pull out my soldering Iron and after examing the scope and scale involved came to the astute conclusion of "NOT A #^&@ING CHANCE!", especially considering I didn't even know if it was necessary. But I just wasn't satisfied that I had done enough to resuscitate good ole' Dan Siego. So I pulled out my multimeter...because any moron can prod aimlessly at a naked core...but it takes any especially dimwitted moron to prod pointlessly at a naked core with piece a of electronic instrumentation. So I took impedance readings across all of the undamaged packs and found that I was more or less getting a consistent reading (did this mean anything, how the hell I am supposed to know?). AHHHHHHHH...but when I took a reading across the damaged leg I found that the impedance had in fact dropped (which seems counterintuitive, but again...what the hell do I know). Eureka...I discoverd..well...ummm...something! (maybe) So I mounted a sewing machine needle to the tip of my Iron, held my breath...closed my eyes and burned myself (note to readers...please only solder with your eyes open). So I again held my breath and this time with my eyes open, put the tiny-winiest pin-point of rosin core solder on the leg ( I used a razor to span the distance between the nearest adjacent leg to keep the solder from bridging the gap). Checked with my multimeter...and got a reading consistent with all the other packs (.016kohms I think). Did this mean anything...(thats right...I have no idea).

4. Let the chip cool, cleaned the offending cap pack with AC 1&2 and popped her back in my machine.

The Results:

7Hrs. + OCCT stable at my sig OC, but at 10*C cooler

UPDATE: Feast yo's eyes on this...the new new hotness!
