If the sticks died for some reason you would be out of luck trying to RMA them.

That is my only contention, but I have been looking for something like this since I can no longer use my XTC cooler because the 8800GTS does not allow for enough clearance.

In that last pic, it looks like you turned the heatpipes a little to the right? How is it movable? Is there thermalpaste between the pipe and the 2 sides that actually touch the chips?

RMA wouldn't be a problem ...

(you mean due to removing the original heat spreaders?)

The Mushkin heatspreaders slid right off, no fuss ... and they'd slide right back on should I ever need to RMA!

There's no visible seal broken or otherwise means to know the stock heat spreaders were ever removed. So, I can't see why RMA would be a problem ...

Yeah ...

When assembling the cooler, you actually coat the length of the heatpipe with thermal compound (I chose a non conductive option) ...

Once that's done, you bolt down either side of the heat spreaders, sandwiching the memory stick and heatpipe between them.

Before tightening all the way, however ... you can rotate the heat pipe on it's axis to any angle you like.

The stock heatspreaders slid off the Mushkin sticks without a hitch?

I don't think my G.Skill will budge without breaking something.

If I can play around a little with the sticks and the stock heatspreaders slide off I'll be picking up 2 of these.

Yeah ... the stock mushkin spreaders just had thermal pads on the inside ... no adhesive.

There's some silver clamps at the top of the mushkin spreaders that actually *press* the heat spreaders against the IC's ... no adhesive on these.

nice coolers wish i could get some but my spreaders are stuck on good so it seems but if they came off woooooo buddy.

awesome review, they made a hude difference. too bad removing the heatspreaders voids the lifetime warranty.

Some folks have RAM (like my Mushkin) which doesn't use adhesive pads on the IC side of the thermal pad; for those with such RAM, the stock spreaders slide off very easily ... no adhering and therefore, the coolers would not interfere with warranty.

Don't know why mushkin used spreaders without adhesive ... but I'm glad they did.
