I think if the pipes were straight horizontal ... you'd still run into some interference with the OCZ mounting ...

I wanted to interject a little edit here regarding the performance of these memory coolers over the past two months.

The single biggest change that I've seen since installing these is that I can run my system with a x7 multiplier now (500x7) ... putting the RAM at 1000mhz (up from 800mhz) and with timings of 4.4.4.12 (2.25 vdimm).

My RAM, at stock speeds is 800mhz/2.1v/4.4.3.10 ...

Prior to this ... and even in winter, I could not stabilize at 3.5ghz/500x7; system would crash after about five minutes; I could jack the RAM timings way up and things would get better but at 2.25v's and 4.4.4.12 ... it wasn't happening.

So back then I had to run the normal 6400 multiplier of x8 (438x8).

Therefore, is it the memory coolers that affected the change? Hard to say ... but it's certainly possible.

Nothing else in the system has changed ... and I've been running at 500x7 for over two months and things are day to day work machine solid (had some northbridge issues but worked them out).

Therefore ... the only thing I can think is that the fairly drastic temp reduction over the stock heat spreaders DID in fact allow me more headroom for overclocking.

Just wanted to put in a little road test addendum now that I've been running them for a bit ...

Another little update regarding these.

I just found this same RAM cooler reviewed at Legion Hardware and their particular test showed the Spirit RS beating the Thermalright HR-07's by about three degrees.

Interesting.

I had first read about the HR-07's at Legion and was sure they would be a bit better due to the dual heatpipes but it's most likely the superior mounting system of the Spirit RS's that makes them better performers.

I've read quite a few reports of HR-07's having flimsly mounts whereas the Spirits lock down like a vice on your memory ICs ...

Very nice review ...saw the original at XS forums but thought I'd say I decided to grab a set of these to play with as well.. unfortunately in Australia they cost US$30 each

So I just recently got a new set of Mushkin D9 1066mhz RAM to replace my old 800mhz kit of the very same series.

Of course, I'm now in the process of switching these kick butt RAM coolers over to my new sticks and I wanted to post a little pic that makes very clear how well these coolers apply pressure to the IC's:

According to many users online, lack of contact pressure has been one of the problems with the Thermalright HR-07 kit (although they may have corrected this by now). This would explain the Legion Hardware review which showed the Spirit ram coolers beating the Thermalright by a handy margin.

I'm considering ordering new thermal strips for the heatsinks but may just use the same ones as they seem to still be fine (sort of moist or oily or something, weird) ...
