I'm trying to install the zalman 9700 cpu cooler and I can't get the retention bracket to screw in. I screw in one side and I can't get the other side to go down. I need help asap.

I had this problem too...just screw the first one in baarely enough, just so that it stays in, dont put it down much.
Then do the same on the other side, get them both in losely Then tighten them both up.

did you screw one side down all the way, if so you need to loosen it to the last couple of threads then the other screw should go in. also when screwing it in taking turns at each screw do one or a threads then the other this will get even pressure on the cpu

Take out the mobo, it helps. I had the same problem with the cooler I'm using now.

I barely screwed it in and I have to put excessive force on the other side and then the other side pops out.

Put the first one in good nuff so it wont pop out, then the other side you SHOULD need alot of force to get it down, its gotta hold that thing on there tight! Trust me you'll get it, just put the first one loose and the second one loose, do about 2 turns of the screwdriver on one side, same on the other, until its locked in

For the 9500 I just screwed one side in, and FORCED the opposite corner in. I had to pull the bracket over to the other side a bit to get the holes to line up, but afterwards all was well =P
