Hi,
__________________1. I have a Zalman 9700 LED HSF and it comes with its own thermal grease. Do you recommend that I stick with Arctic Silver 5? 2. Also what is the best method for applying AS5 or the Zalman grease. Do I spread it across the whole CPU? The CPU and heatsink both? Do I use just a thin line? ect Thanks so much.

One thin line across the center and spread an even coat from that with a razor blade. Use as5 it is a proven recipe.

When i installed mine I tested both pastes, and if you apply the zalman stuff to the base and the CPU i actually got 3c lower in load temps...so i stuck with that.

Just one thin line is all takes and make sure you cover the processors entire plate. "internal heat spreader" make it where you cannot see the metal. Then twist your heatsink on it around 1 time. That should do the trick. AS5 is fine.
Just use whatever method you feel most comfortable with. Everyone has their own way to being a Jedi.

1. If you have AS5, I would clean off the stock paste and apply AS5
2. What CPU do you have? There are many methods on applying thermal paste. Single core processors are recommended to use the dot method where you put a pea size, or smaller on the middle of the CPU and then place the HSF over it and let them spread out. Dual and Quad cores are recommended to use the line method on the Arctic Silver's official website. You only need as much amount as a size of a grain of rice. Though the line method doesn't work for everyone, so there's a bit of trail and error. DO NOT MANUALLY SPREAD THE PASTE! Let the HSF squeeze and spread it. http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm

Hey dude if you clean it. wipe it first then use a small amount of alcohol rub. You can pick it up for $1 a bottle at most stores. Just be sure to only use a little and not to get it anywhere else but on top of the processors heat spreader. You can use a paper towel and dampen it with it. But I usually recommend tericloths or those blue cloths your can get in auto/hardware stores, etc. They don't produce any lint. One your done wiping it with rubbing alcohol just wait about five minutes for the alcohol to evaporate and you should be fine to apply your thermal paste.

Both are good. Use AS5 if you don't feel comfortable with zalmans, but either one should yield good temps. I didn't let the zalman cure, but it was on par with my AS5.

Hey mates thx for the quick reply.
__________________Btw i have a E6600 2.4ghz CPU I will try the line method and let the HSF spread it seems like the easiest starting test. What I gathered so far is that the line should be very thin, am I correct?

The Zalman has a little brush which makes it 100% fool proof...i love that stuff and i'll pay the 10 bucks to get another bottle of it when im done with my as5/current zalman stuff
Yes, the line for arctic silver should be thin and not too long
