Default toss up between air and water cooling

have an e6320 and 8800gts, i'm in a real toss up between a water system and an air system. i would prefer to buy an out of the box kit for water if i get one, and would like it to run the graphics and cpu, i think the chipset cooler is pretty good on the evga 680i (if not please tell me)

for air cooling i was looking at the ultra 120 thermalright, it seems to be the most recommended and the hr-03 plus for the graphics.

i know this would not identical gains to watercooling, but would it be comparible? the air coolers would be about $100+fans, a water cooling system to do both would be atleast $250?

any info is greatly appreciated

Out of box water cooling is a no-no. If you want results, build it yourself, you'll be happier in the long run. My WC setup with just my CPU cost $250-300, a waterblock for the GPU would be another $50-150.

Not too familiar with air-cooling.

wow for $450 i could setup a refigeration unit on my tower... i did see a few people talk about the cookie cutter water cooling setups, that's why i wanted to get some experienced opinions with it.

right now just about 3ghz, but if the gains are going to be alot better with water instead of air i would still consider water. i would just have to have someone piece a system together for me i guess, since i don't know that much about them

Yeah I have been toying with the idea myself.

Definately go for a custom WC loop. you will get miles more performance and also have the option to customise it to your hearts content.

Ive found the dual cores (and heard from others using Intel) that these CPUs TDP really kicks the heat out, especially when you start increasing the core voltages. This in combination with the warm running 8800 series, My system is pretty toasty.

Im getting a bit fedup with waiting for a decent air cooler for the 8800GTS cards as well

Water will get you way more head room for OCing and will in turn extend the life of the chips you cool with it, although a good WC setup costs a good deal of money if your willing to cut corners on everything except the blocks, things can occur...
use a heater core from a bonneville instead of a nice rad
use 7/16" tubing instead of full 1/2" tygon
use a D5 that has no speed tunign and is simply stuck at max speed
use a good WB for your CPU (fuZion, don't forget to take it apart and remove spare black plastic debris)
and use the cheapest coolant out there, zyrex super coolant

and another tip search the members sales forums, many good water cooling parts go up for cheap...

the thermalright hr-03 plus seems to keep the temps down ALOT.

those seem to be pretty good gains LOL

3Ghz can easily be done on air unless you've got a really bad chip. go for a GeminII and you're at 3.36 before you know it

also recommend the HR-03 plus.
