Help with Zalman 9700 Fanmate
So the Zalman 9700 is supposed to get 2800 rpm. However, when the fanmate is connected, it maxes out at 2450 rpm. Does anyone know if it can be hooked up directly to the motherboard without the fanmate? A standard 3 wires come off the fan and into a 6 pin device. Another separate 3 wires come off this 6 pin device and plug directly into the motherboard. It doesn't look like the circuit would be closed without the fanmate hooked up to that 6 pin device. Any thoughts?

Could it be the sensor is not right telling you only that RPM???

I doubt it, I've read that using the fanmate can slow the speed down a bit, which makes sense because it's adding extra resistance. Plus PC Probe II is reading my case fan speeds correctly. What I've been unable to find is whether or not you can just plug it into the motherboard without the fanmate. Seems like the wires aren't connected without the fanmate attached.

you should be able to do it with a cnps 9700, my 9500 works just fine with no fanmate (it didn't work, turned my fan off.) However, you seem to be describing that the fan attaches directly to the fanmate, as far as i know the fanmate is completely seperate and you should be able to detach a standard 3-pin fan conector.

yeah, I JUST got my 9700 LED today, not yet installed, but mine just has the standard 3-pin lead from the fan, and then that hooks into that ghetto looking Fan-mate thing. Not even risking it, right to the mobo for me.

just hook it up directly to your motherboard. the FanMates are ugly. besides, a couple hundred RPM difference in fan speed won't really make a difference on your CPU temp.

You can connect the 9700 directly to the fan port. I connected mine to my motherboard with no problems.
