Hello fellas, long time reader but i just joined. I think you guys are a great group of helpful OC guru's. Which is why i came here to ask such a question. I currently have a Pentium D 805 (which i got for free) and i decided to invest on a Tuniq Tower for cooling and OC'ing. As you can see on my specs, i run at a stock 2.66Ghz but i upped it to about 3.4Ghz. Ive run Orthos for about 20+ hours and never had a hiccup. But i dont know if i feel good with load temps at about 55 on a cold night and about 60C on a hot day. I know my max temp allowed on this proc is 64.1, per Intels specifications. Last night i decided to try out 3.6Ghz and it ran Orthos for about 2 hours and then gave out on an error. So i switched back to 3.4Ghz. I really didnt see or "feel" the difference in the speeds. So why bother. What my question is, is there anyway i can get better temps? How about my current temps? Are they fine? Lapping, should i do it? Reseat the HSF and apply fresh AS5? Thanks fellas.

Lapping the Tuniq and even your PD will definitely yield a lower temp. Reseating could never hurt either. How is your airflow through your case? Having bad airflow can actually hurt temps badly.
Btw, welcome to OCN!

Yep, got one right here. The title is a little misleading, but it tells you pretty much everything you need to know about lapping.
TheInformationator's amazing guide

load at 55 degrees is preety good for a smithfield, especially an overclocked one. with better room and case flow air flow, you can go as low as 45 under load, but you might need a lot of fans for that. Lapping will help, there are reported temp drops of up to 7 degrees just from lapping. I wouldnt suggest lapping the cpu if you plan to resell it at some point...
Did you manage to hit 4.0Ghz yet? I hear the 805s are very capable of it.

Welcome.Thats a good CPU should hit almost 4 ghz if you want to go water the tuniq is nice and lapping will drop temps couple degrees. Also check my 805 guide might help long live the 805 90nm power beast!!!!

I found going above 63 or higher usually freezes on me when benching/stressing. I would keep it under 50c if you can for lifespan and under 1.55-1.6 vcore. What is it at now give your specs on my thread I will add you to it.

Thx fellas! Considering i got this proc for free, i dont plan on reselling it. Maybe just handing it down to someone in my family. The fan that i have on my TT is the one it came with. I feel it does its job. Since air isnt being blow onto the heatsink but away from it, i dont think i need anything with a higher CFM. I tried going to 3.6 with a Vcore of about 1.36, it was stable, but not for too long. But thats on Orthos. I ran it like that for a few days and i didnt have an issue with my normal duties (video encoding, music streaming, vid streaming) But i didnt feel comfortable running it right under the recommended load temps which is 64.1. Now that summer is around the bend, i wanna see what i can do to keep it at 3.4Ghz and still keep it cool. If lapping and optimizing air flow can do it? Then im up for it. Also i forgot to mention, my room is like a furnace. I recently rebuilt it, but havent installed insulation, so as hot as it is out, its the same on the inside. I do like the 3am temps tho, my idle is way low for being this proc at that speed.
