Default Overkill on my airflow?

Hey, a few weeks back I lapped and installed my Thermalright Ultra120 Extreme, and slapped this Panaflo fan on it. I took the side panel off this morning (while the computer was on) to take a peek at what I could do with cable management once my windowed side panel arrives this week. I noticed a large amount of air being pushed sideways out of the case. Most of the air is coming from between the Panaflo and the heatsink itself (there's a small gap, the heatsink fins aren't exactly flush with the fan.

Should I be feeling a large volume of air escaping before it even passes through the heatsink? Something I might have done wrong? Any help would be appreciated. I'm now unsure if I should put the side 120mm as an intake or an exhaust in this case, now that I know of this odd airflow..

EDIT: In the pic, the shaded area is the gap, and if you're looking at it from that angle, air would be hitting you in the face.

Since thermalrights don't come with a fan, the gap is normal when installing one. The air that is coming out sideways is also normal for the high cfm fan you are using. All the air that the fan is pushing cannot be transferred through the fins of the thermalright, so the air finds another escape route and exits sideway. It should not affect temperatures but if it bother you, then just put duct tape on the side where the holes are.
