Default Tuniq Tower. Instructions...

I know I put this thing in wrong, hehe. Anyway, I used too much AS5 I found out because I forgot to check how to put the stuff on before, so I put too much AS5 on. Not to mention there is apparently no way to position the TT on my board to blow out the rear exhaust. I am not sure if this is by design because the rear exhaust fan sits right about 1/4" away from the TT. The TT is positioned (I think) to blow air into the PSU fan. Is this optimal? It seems you can only position the fan to blow up or down the case because of the H-clip and there are capacitors etc that won't allow you to mount it in a different angle. Not to mention the thing moves all around when you are trying to put it down securely.

What are your experiences installing this thing and how did you get the best cooling? My cooling is still real nice and I can run (not Orthos stable, haven't checked) games etc and my temps stay around 60-65C under extreme moments of load, they will get up to 70C if I am running Orthos on a couple of the cores.

Your temps are way too high.

But yes I had an idential experience, the instructions look like they printed every other line, then moved the paper and resumed printing. The TT moves when I put the first screw in. No experience with clearance, and it is a little annoying, but it works.

Yes I agree about the tt moving around a bit trying to install it, what I did was use double sided tape to stick the h bracket to the cooler, problem solved. Also I didnt have to remove my motherboard which is a plus.
But as far as cooling goes, with my 3 gig oc on stock volts orthos stable, I still peak a 56c on one of my cores.

Welcome to life lol.

Lots of cooler move when you are installing them. You have to use tape or be very good at it. I can do it without tape and it still doesn't move.

Use Audi's AS5 Mod technique... Mechanical pencil head on the end of AS5 tube.

IMO you should have measured your set up first to see if the tuniq tower would fit. But it blowing into the PSU won't be THAT bad.

How can you say my temps are too high?

65 -70 degree's C under load is a bit high.

What overclock are you running at?

I doubt that that temp will kill the CPU's life span enough to worry, but I try an keep my CPU under 50 degrees C under load. Just like changing your oil every 3,000 miles, it could probably to til 5,000 but it never hurts to keep it under that.

For AS5 you want to use very little. A lot of less than you'd think. You should be able to position the TT so that it blows the air to the rear of the case. Mine is anyway...that might be a limitation of your motherboard I dont know. But that shouldnt have too great an effect on temps...it's just not optimal is all.

When you start screwing the TT down, you want just want to hold it as steady as possible until the screws are tight enough so that it wont move. Maybe have someone hold it in position while you tighten the screws? If you dont have someone, just do it the best you can. It's going to move a little bit, but that should be too big a deal unless its sliding all over the place, thus smearing the AS5 all over.

As far as your temps go, are you overclocked and getting those load temps? Because they are high for load without an overclock. Your ambient temps will also have an effect.

I idle at around 38C, +- 4 degrees, but my ambients are higher than most.

I will be honest I haven't had a chance to do real testing and logging, so numbers I throw out might be off.

I don't believe I can position the fan to the rear because there are capacitors or something that impede the H-bar.

My temps do seem high (I was at 3.823 mhz at the time 1.51 vcore, I forgot to mention that it seems) my stock clock temps are actually decent around 35+-5, my ambients is 21C. I will need to get more accurate information and revisit this post at a latter date.

I used to have a Tuniq as well, in fact I just sent it back to newegg for a refund. I could only position it up into my psu because of the H plate.

I didnt like the constant hot air being blown into the bottom of my PSU and not out of the case, needless to say I was very displeased with the cooler, the size of it is a bit to much to be honest and the temps were horrible (despite several reseats and many different as5 methods) I was at about 35c idle.

Got my zalman 9700 in a few days ago and now at stock I idle at 27c. And its much smaller, and can be positioned easily. You might want to go the same route given your situation.

And btw my ambient is about 75c+

Well the PSU has a giant fan that sucks in Air so it isn't a big deal. Not to mention the top of my case has an exhaust fan. With the Rear case fan pulling air off the TT the way it is positioned now I really don't think it is a big deal. I installed it improperly, used too much AS5, didn't lap it and the thing is working OK right now. I have to really see what it can do, because basically what I did was built the system, installed windows, messed with fsb and vcore, so my temps are all over and I haven't baselined anything yet.

The size of it doesn't bother me at all even though it was rather shocking. Actually I think it is pretty damn badass looking. Looks like your CPU has some armor, its only to bad I will be the only one that probably ever sees it that actually cares. HA.
