Default should i lap my cpu?

okay i just lapped my heatsink and my temps are no better than before. it is definitely flat im sure. but my ihs is severely convex. would it be worth the time, effort, and risk to lap my cpu? i dont plan on upgrading my processor any time soon so killing it isnt really an option

yeah I did that on my e6600 and it changed drastically. I found the ihs was seriously concave, so the edges wore down much more during lapping. I don' think there is really that much risk with the proc, so go ahead. I actually used much heavier sandpaper to get to the copper because the sheets in the lapping kit weren't making any progress.
