Default SilenX...Quality?

So there I was, just sitting at my computer playing WoW and I take a looksee down at my G15 LCD and notice for the second day in a row I was having warmer temperatures than usual despite my ambient being cooler than usual. Thinking this odd, I opened up my case and lo and behold right in front of my eyes where my top exhaust fan is supposed to be I see a SilenX fan shroud with the blades dangling below it by the LEDs reminding me more of a windmill than a case fan. Well, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

BTW: Sorry for the crappy picture quality, they're from my cell phone.

When I first bought the fans three months ago and took them out of the box I thought they felt a little cheap, but I didn't think that something like this would happen to a $25 fan within three months of use.

Make sure you sandpaper the hole, and then put some U rubber over it to avoid sharp edges. Put some grease around the newly drilled hole, and then screw your computer, screw it hard. Maybe install some UV lights and turn em up to indicate that your computer is also excited.

Meh, I wouldn't say so.

Just a pictorial testimonial, a substantiation of claims of people who have actual unfortunate experience with this company's products.

Dopin, is the warranty still in effect? I sure would hope so.

excuse my ignorance, but do SilenX fans use ball bearings?

If so, it could have been the fan was horribly misaligned and moved out of the outer raceway of the bearing. Never seen it on a fan, but it happens a lot competitor ball bearings we life test at work.

It's a hybrid magnetic/fluid bearing. The prop is held in place with a nearly impossible to access pin. Unlike other fans you should not even try to disassemble a Silenx as the oil will then run out and the fan will soon stop working porperly.

I have yet to have one of them fall apart on me but I can imagine it might happen...just poor workmanship and QC.
