I was routing some cables and stuff, and now every time I turn it on, when it boots it beeps twice and says "cpu fan error." I have my heatsink fan plugged into the same spot it was before, and its spinning so its not stopped. Whats the deal?

Did you change the CPU fan/heatsink by any chance? The CPU fans are 4 pin while the other third party heatsinks are 3 pin.
__________________You can go to CMOS and change it so it doesn't give you the warning. I'd monitor your temperatures (just in case the fan really is dying or spinning at a lower RPM than it should).

Yeah, i know what you mean, i have to press f2 every time i go on my computer because i replaced my case fan with a 4 pin fan, instead of the three pin, still not sure how to fix it though...

nope same cpu heatsink. i didnt even take it off. i did unplug it in order to re-route it. but i did so with the computer turned off so i dont get it.
__________________david, you changed a case fan and it gives you the error message? I didn't add or take out anything from my computer, i just had it all appart routing wires. Hmm. When I open up AiBooster, it says thats my cpu fan is at 0 rpm when its not because i can see it spinning in my case. And im pretty sure i have the fan connected to the right connector. it says "cpu_fan"

Yeah, after i switched to my new case, i used the case fan that came with the case, and put my old one in a different computer, the new one plugs into the 4 pins, but the old one plugged into the 3 pin, i know whats wrong, but i just dont want to buy another fan. XD
Sucks for you though, take it out and plug it back in?

To stop the CPU fan error message on most ASUS boards, enter the bios and find the hardware monitor. Change the CPU fan speed to "Ignored", should clear up the issue
![]() I have it happen on my wife's Asus board, the silencer 64 revs way too low and the computer thinks its an error.

You tried? What do you mean you tried? You just go and change it in CMOS so it doesn't give you the warning anymore. Takes 30 seconds.

Go into the BIOS, and go to the 'Hardware Monitoring' menu. You'll see something like "CPU Q-Fan Control" or something similar. Disable this to get rid of the warning.
