Default Need different HS??

I had a Tower112 on my P4 2.4 Northwood OC'd to 2.84 and it held my temps around 45-46C at load. I just changed over to a 3.0 Prescott and I can't seem to get this thing to cool down. I have tried installing the HS twice (AS5 1st time, Shin Etsu 2nd time), and the second time I lapped the IHS as well. The first application was giving me 60C at full load (folding) at startup and it would creep up to 65C before I shut it down. The second install brought it down to 56-57C at full load and I am left to believe that the install was good both times since that small drop is what I would expect after lapping it. I have one 80mm on the T-112 that pushes +50 CFM (yeah, it's a bit noisy) and plenty of case fans so air flow should not be a problem.

Should I try yet another install or should I be looking at a new HS? I know the new HS's out do perform a bit better than the T-112 but will it be enough of a difference to justify it? I would really hate to get a new one just to have the same results. I know Prescott's run hot but this hot? Suggestions?

I don't think you should waste the money. After all you are below 60°C full load now, and I do believe the 3.0 Prescott has a (MAX)thermal specification of 69°C. IMO you're fine.

Unfortunately that is at stock temps though...I haven't even tried to push it yet. With temps that high from the start I am a bit apprehensive to start pushing it, especially since I leave my rigs on 24/7

It is because it is a PresHOTT, those things can make cookies. I am unsure of their thermal specs, but they run HOT, I promise. I have a laptop with a pressy in it, and I cannot keep it on my lap without it burning my leg hair off.

I think the Coolermaster Gemeni II was going for real cheap on newegg..that would be your best bet because its just so dam cheap, stick a couple 120mm fans on it and im sure you would get much better temperatures, maybe not as good as the TR Ultra 120, but it also wont be as expensive.

Cost really isn't an issue regarding a replacement, I just don't want to do it and then find out it was for nothing.

Anyone know how good the T-112 stands up against the new crop of HS?
