Default Got a Big Typhoon...but I think it's missing hardware!!!

Ok, first of all, this is to mount this sucker on a 939 board. I got this used from an OCN member that is to remain nameless. But it came with a great fan on it...it's lapped, but it only has 1 H bracket and some nuts and bolts. Can I mount this on a 939 board like this, or do I need to custom fabricate something? If so...what?

You only recieved ONE H bracket? Tell the seller that you need 2.

Lol, can't do that. The seller has been just excellent to me, and I've already asked enough from him. Bought a cooler from him originally, died within about an hour of use...told him, and he sent me this Big Typhoon. I'd like to just use the single H bracket if at all possible....or something maybe I can make perhaps?

You could use STIFF rubber washers from the bottom of the board with bolts running up through them, through the holes to the H bracket on the topside, kinda what I had to do with my BT (bought used too). It actually worked out REALLY well though, not to mention I know it's "custom" and it really looks good with brass bolts and nuts

My 640 idles at 23C most of the time and never exceeds 45C with the stock BT fan. Excellent contact I suppose

How about using the stock back plate on the board? Is that a possibility? Maybe drilling through were the original screws are...and just bolting through? Or maybe even just using the stock screws to hold the H Bracket onto the stock backplate? Trying to find the EASIEST solution to mount this sucker. Rig's getting pretty warm using stock cooling.

I have a BT and only one bracket and mine works fine

Bolt --> nut --> Bracket --> MB --> rubber washer --> nut

It works just fine, just be creative lol

Oh yea... forgot about 939's having backplates, oops. I'm sure that would be just as effective. Is it plastic? If you do it that way, just make sure your mounting hardware is not grounding against your side panel or *poof*, bye bye opty. Give it a shot, can't hurt to try. Hopefully the backplate is stiff enough, which I think it will be

Yeah the stock backplate is plastic. I was actually thinking just MAYBE I can just use the stock screws that hold the backplate on? I don't know though since it also holds the mounting piece on as well (around the socket...plastic, stock HSF clips to it). Will that get in the way? I just want to make sure before I go and install this thing and blow up the rig, lol. This isn't going on my Opty BTW. Finally wrestled my Opty temps down to 59*C under load with my Zalman. I'm sticking with that for now. This is for my X2 rig that loads at around 70-72*C or so, lol.

Holy crap at the load temps... And I don't know about using the stock hardware, I highly doubt it's long enough. The BT sticks up a fair amount above the base of the board and the stock hardware is probably only threaded 1/2" at most into that bracket... it would be realllll tight if it worked. You're best bet would be to go buy a $2 packet of 1.5" brass machine screws and nuts and just do it right, if you have the time. You can try with the stock hardware, but be warned it may not work and the rig might be out of commission until you get your hardware. And the bracket might be in the way, depending on how you orient the BT and H-bracket. Good luck!
