Thanks to all of you for posting your temps and info !! Also thanks for your advice on how to improve on this thread. I had started to post a ranking but then decided to wait. I did not like the way it looked. I will regroup and take into account all the advice I have received so far . I want the ranking to be neat and easy to look at.

Please keep posting your temps and info, update if you lap or change anything. I promise to post a ranking as soon as I can. I've all of a sudden gotten very busy with other things not in my control but I am working on this with the free time I have.

I should have one made out by weeks end. Thanks for your post and support!

BTW, I have not put my sig rig together yet as I'm waiting for my TRUE and video card cooler. I plan to lap both as well as my cpu but first I will assemble to record temps as to do a comparison on before and after. Thanks again!!

hey fellow TRUE owners. How important is lapping? I think I might need to in order to get lower temps. I am idling at 30-34 with 2 slipstreams at 1900rpm in push/pull and load at 48. This is with 22C ambient, no overclock, 1.3 vcore, and the heatsink seated yesterday. I expected to drop below 30 on all cores with this heatsink since my AC7pro idled at 34.

Mine was very much bowed and the contact surface was about 20% right down the center! The IHS literally rocked back and forth on it
First I had to finish it flat with a machinists stone, my usually 320g emery method for the rough and warped was not very productive due to the insane amount of warping. Once the surface was flat, a quick 320 emery, then 500, 800, 1200, 1500 W/D sanding and it was smooth and flat. As you might guess, only the center 2/3 was copper, the outer edges parallel to the pipes were still nickel plated... to give you an idea of just how warped mine was!

So, don't be fooled by the fine milling finish! Some fool over clamped mine and distorted the base when it was milled!

push it more. this heatsink really shines at extreme voltages, eg. at 1.5v, it socks up heat better than any other heatsink on the market.

Hi everyone,

I'm a new member but I've been reading Overclock.net for a few weeks now in an effort to educate myself so that my first build isn't a complete fiasco. I have to say I'm really loving the congenial atmosphere and overall helpfulness of the community.

I recently purchased everything (still waiting on my antec p182 to get started) for my first build including an e8400 and I'm quite interested in overclocking once I've educated myself a bit further. I'm very interested in purchasing a true for this task and while I don't want to sacrifice too much performance, I've put in a fair amount of effort into ensuring that my build is as quiet as possible. Which fans would you recommend using for the true to help me achieve that end? I apologize in advance if this question is kind of vague, but I'm really trying to make sure that I don't screw this up. I've been having nightmares of snapping ram sticks and defective motherboards all week .

Thanks in advance .

Hi and WELCOME TO OCN

A lot depends on how high you OC it and what voltage you use to get the CPU to that speed. So what fan is quiet when OCing, not many.

Also, with the Ultra series fan clip, fans that have a boss between the screw ears need to be modded for the clips to work.

#1 - what is total airflow like?
#2 - when was the thermal compound applied? has it reached it's break-in period?

---
My unlapped true has my Q6600 (G0) cpu idling at the same temp as the ambient room temperature with the cores being between 10-15C higher...at stock speeds.

Hello again fellow OCN members,

I received my TRUE a couple of days ago and I'm going to start lapping tonight and install tomorrow sometime I hope. I also bought a HR-03 GT that I'll lap as well.

The Duke, my TRUE also seems high in the center as well . Looks like it's going to take more sanding than I anticipated.

thecool85, welcome to OCN. You've come to the right place.

The Rocker, thanks for the PM with the much welcome advice.

Bare with me guys as I didn't know I'd get so busy at work as I have and trying to get this upgrade together in my little spare time is keeping me from spending any time on this thread.

I'll get things in order here as soon as I can and post a ranking too. Thanks for being patient. Keep the post coming!!

I'm planning on lapping mine as well. I have a concave on one side. as a result two of my quads core run hotter than the other two.
