Hi guys,
As some of you may have seen or known; earlier I showed you guys some shots of how the thermal paste was applied on my processor (I didn't know how to do it) Anyways, after showing my friends these shots, they said I shouldn't have taken the heatsink off and then putting it back on again just to take the shot. They say I should reapply the thermal paste, since it may now be ruined So how right are they? Should I reapply the paste?

P.S. the thermal paste was new, I just took off the heatsink to the a shot of how it came out.

couple of things to consider. did you run your machine for a bit after you applied the paste and before you removed the tower? if so, i'd say it wouldn't hurt to re-apply. also, how are your temps looking? with that same cooler on a q6600 at idle i usually hit around 30C and under, 50C running SMP folding and CSS. if your temps are higher much higher than that, you might want to re-apply paste. If your temps are nice and cool, it probably won't make much of a difference. if you are really concerned about it, it won't hurt to re apply the paste.

Personally just check if temps are acceptable and decide if it's worth your time and effort to bother. On the other hand, it never hurts either.

What happened is I put the cooler on to spread the paste than took it off after about 5 seconds, in order to take the picture. No I did not turn the PC on, there was nothing plugged in the mobo Therefore, would putting it on for 5 secs then taking it off for about 30 to take the shot, hurt the performance in any way. i don't think so, but you never know, right.

if you've already put everything back in the case then i'd say your fine. i really don't think you are going to have any problems just leaving it be.

Ya, it should be fine, even if it is mounted wrong, i doubt you will see a difference of over 2C. Id say leave it, its not worth the hassle of taking off your HSF. Especially when you have a Tuniq, they are big and a hassle to take on and off.

If you put the paste on the chip, and then the heatsink on top, and then removed it for any reason (photo, or any other reason), then you'll have to reapply the thermal compound. The reason is this: when you removed it, you separated the seal/bond that the thermal compound was designed for (chip -> thermal transfer material -> heatsink). Reinstalling without cleaning and reapplying can potentially create air pockets between the heatsink and the processor. Air is an insulator of heat, and will ruin the thermal transfer and raise temperatures.

yep just squirt your paste on the sink, but be reasonable with it
