Here's my setup
__________________Processor - Q6600 2.4 Memory - CORSAIR XMS2 2 Gb Power Supply - ThermalLake 600 watts Cooler - Arctic Freezer 7 Case - Antec p-180 Sound - X-Fi Platinum Graphics - 8800 Something I forgot Okay I want to over clock my Q6600 to 3.0 but before I do that I want to get some good temps because right now it seems that mine are to high. I currently have 3 different internet windows open and my temps are 54 52 48 48 which seem to High to me for doing preetty much nothing. I might add that my p-180's fan speeds are at medium which I'd like to lower to low but since I have this heat issue I keep em there. Some other details that I should add are I recently added that Thermal paste but it pretty much did nothing by the looks of things. Also the Artic freezer sits at a wierd position in the p-180 so I'm kinda skeptical on the airflow going on here I've search the forum and I was either lookin' in the wrong places or I could not find anything on this.I'm a complete newb at this so try no to use no fancy terms. If anyone helps me solve this problem I'm willing to deposit a good 10 bucks into their paypal account. Any things I could try? tips? Help?

WHen you say the cooler " looks weird" or "sits weird", please give more detail. Make sure there is a good connection between the cooler and the processor, and that you applied a justified amount of thermal paste on there. Too much or too little will have a huge difference. If not, what did you do for overclocking? If you changed any of the voltages, I'd suggest lowering them and testing to get the lowest possible voltages that are stable. There's no way it should run that hot with ANYTHING at idle. What are you using to measure the temperatures? There's a change the sensors could be faulty as well.
Just to be sure, take the cooler off and put it on again,m making sure there is solid connection, and that all your screws are fastened equally. Not too tight, not too loose. a rice grain sized bead of thermal paste on the center of the CPU will cover the whole CPU once the cooler is flat on there.

I haven't overclocked yet but I am planning to once I get the heat issue fixed I'm definitely going to be taking the Cooler out and uting it back with newer Thermal paste to see if that helps I'm using Coretemp to check my temperatures

Yeah make sure that you can get it mounted properly and witht he correct tim installed.
If all you want is 3.0 ghz then you should be able to do that with stock voltage if its a GO. Should be safe and easy for the most part.
