Been looking to replace my Rosewill Z3 cooler for my Q6600 and was thinking about getting a TRUE but have recently heard of the new Noctua.

According to AnandTech the Noctua appears to best the TRUE but I was wondering if anyone knew how well the Noctua would perform on a Q6600? It appears to be a great HSF at $60 which includes the much appraised Noctua fan.

Yes, the TRUE is the best. Plus, that review is inaccurate because they used 2 fans on the Noctua, and only 1 on the TRUE (they didnt even mention which fan they used, though I could be wrong).

If they used the same fans for both, the TRUE would most likely outperform the noctua.

Also if you get a TRUE, you should lap it because the base usually has a bad, uneven finish.

Just read ALL the comments on that review. You'd be surprised at how people's using a Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme with two Noctua NF-P12 fans. If I had known of those ways to setup the fans, I had done it before setting up mine...

The thing that annoys me about the TRUE is that you basically have to lap it to get the best results though.
Poor quality control IMO.

Ahh so that was you in the comments.

How do you feel the P12s function as intake and exhaust fans? Do you have any comparisons of them to past intake/exhaust fans? Also how many of them do you have installed in your case and does the noise level increase as the number of fans go up?

I don't have the kind of equipment needed to do fan performance comparisons, but if you checked out all the reviews, the S12s are better for open air flow, with the P12s better for areas with more resistance, like through heatsinks, etc.

Either fan is very nice; i have a bunch of both, but i like the newer ones a bit better since they have the adaptors to do either 900, 1100 (or use default 1300 RPM).
The older S12s just include the adaptor for 600 RPM (vs. default 1200 RPM), & IMO, 600 RPM is a tad low.

I find they're basically inaudible around 1100 or lower anyway, which is why i run all my P12s with the adaptor for 1100 RPM.

I have three of the P12s + two on the heatsink + two Nexus 92mms + the 250mm side panel fan in my main case, a TT Armor.

Not going to post a pic of the whole case, since i don't bother with cable management really.
Posting a pic of the mess would tend to incite mockery from those who spend hours tweaking their cabling
I switch parts out too much to make it all neat inside.

But i do like Noctua fans, yes.

Pricey, yes.

But i feel they're worth it.

I didn't lap it. I mean, I didn't think it was necessary, and I don't have a eXtreme to compare. Anyhow, I thought the base of my heatsink was fine.
