This is not true. There are fans that blow the other direction. You can tell which way the fan blows by how the blades are curved, or by the arrow sometimes printed on the fan casing.

-The 25mm thickness are good for general case ventilation, and for CPU coolers that dont support thicker fans. Try to stick with 38mm-thick fans unless, well, you absolutely can't. The 25mm-thick fans, however, can be better for people who want a fan that can be installed in one place, but the air to not go necessarily straight, since the air is shot out of them, generally, in a more conical (cone?) patern.

This is debatable actually. Since a 25mm thick fan spins the air more, you will get more turbulence than a 38mm fan. More turbulence means more air to metal contact and lower temps. It's debatable whether this is noticeable or not though. A 38mm fan usually pushes more air and probably outweighs any advantage the 25mm has, but it's something to keep in mind.

yea, I know. I still seem to get a fair amount of intake from the vents just over the Zalman though. Idles at 40@2.96

10 fans in my case.

2 front intake
1 Rear Exhaust
2 Top Exhaust
1 right side panel intake
1 left side panel intake
1 cpu fan
1 gpu fan
1 psu fan

Can't fit the 2nd side panel fan (heatsink in the way)

My opinion is the scythe 120mm 1600rpm s-flex model is where the performance for $ is. It will move more air than necessary at full speed, if its attached behind a grate and being used as an intake there WILL be noise, that is not the fan motor though. As an exhaust its pretty much silent, airflow is the only audible sound.

The Slipstreams create incredible airflow, and i only use one in the case because its quite ridiculous. At full speed..I was worried the airflow was too turbulent, and I wouldn't even use slipstreams without a fan controller.

I know, but there are what, like 3 fans that do? And the ones that do normally have a sticker on the other side as well, in which case they could ask me which way it blows. These fans will probably have the arrow on the outer rim in either case. Besides, none of the good fans have 2 stickers, so if you're caught with one it's your fault.

Admitedly, there is much mroe as far as physics goes, but keep in mind that the air that will more more contact will also be concentrated in smaller areas, whereas a fan that blows more 'straight', thus less concentration and contact, but more coverage.

Hot air rising has absolutely no power over airflow. Hot air rising should only be taken into account if you have no airflow. The CPU is closer to the top anyhow, and intake from the top means more cold air in the top, warming up as it goes down.

will using a metal piece as a spoiler on a TRUE to direct air flow downwards towards the CPU give lower temps? be it 1C or 2C

I agree 100%. I stand corrected but don't fans generally blow the air away from the spokes (Plastic arms holding the motor area)

I am french and have no idea what you are trying to say.

If you mean adding a piece of metal on the back of it opposite the fan, I think this wouldn't work. If I'm wrong, what do you mean?

Once again, but with the word 'spoke' this time. I really need to get a dictionnary here.

Actually fans blow air into the ''arms''. You will notice that the part that sucks in is also the part where you can put your finger on the motor and feel it turn.

The sticker that DOESN'T turn is where the air will go, how's that?

Any suggestions/mods people you want to share? Always looking to beef this up! This is also a bump because there was about 3 more threads about 'what fan' again.

Hey Adrienspawn, have you ever tested filter materials for fans and what is best for airflow vs dust bunny stopage from getting into your rig? I'm not talking about professional filters you buy at a computer store, but ones like pantyhose (like the one that girly I was checkin out in line during lunch...wow), screen door mesh, Scotch brite pads, AC filters, etc. It's not fans, but directly affects them. Just a thought.
