Default Is cooling the video card even worth it?

Possibly a stupid question, but I have an 8800GTX which I was considering getting an air cooler for and trying my hand at overclocking. The thing is, I know absolutely nothing about overclocking video cards, and I was wondering if there is actually a significant performance boost (say greater than 10%) when overclocked with an aftermarket cooler?

On that note, would the Thermalright HR-03 a good cooler if I was going to get one?

OK, generally speaking, as long as the card is reaching its overclock limit and temps are still OK, then no. (as in, you can't get a higher OC stable and temps are still < 85C)

Now, my card is more stable under 65C, so I need a bit more cooling to acheive a stable clock. I don't think I could get more just by cooling it more. Usually, the extra cooling is in conjunction with a volt mod or replacing an obscene fan (2900XT)

Absolutely a worthwhile difference is gained from overclocking your VGA card.

Easily 15% to 20% increases depending on your particular overclock.

And yes ... the HR-03 PLUS is the cooler you want. Be sure to get the PLUS version; mo heatpipes mo betta.

Strap a generic 92mm fan on that baby and your going to get about as good as you can get with air cooling.

for an 8800gtx i do believe that would defiantly be worth it considering those things run warm at stock setting if am not mistaken. also that cooler is a great one. I got a 20+ C drop from my modded stock cooler on my 7950gt. oh and to answer ur question if you haven't hit ur oc wall before your temp wall with that stock cooler (which i doubt) you may see a good jump in speed.
