I had lapped my Thermalrite Ultra 120 Extreme earlier but at that time I was afraid to throw my CPU on a workbench and scrape its warranty away. Luckily enough I grew up
. Since there are plenty of lapping tutorials, I wont go through all of the details and just show some pics. ![]() Tools used ![]() Stock ![]() Best idea is to mark the cpu with a felt tip marker so you know when to go to the next grit of paper ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Half way there... ![]() ![]() Was starting to get boring ![]() ![]() Almost done ![]() Polished CPU ![]() ![]() The Heatsink - NB The scratches are on the ruler Its a time consuming process and many cigarettes have to be consumed... but its worth it when you finally manage to see a what atleast resembles a refecltion in either of the parts. I would highly recommend buying a lapping kit with polish. I found a great one on eBay, the only problem was that seller only included enough cloth for one component i.e cpu or heatsink, but I managed to buy an identical one from a local store. Conclusion: I am very sad to say that I am yet to reap the benefits of my success since my temps have risen, even after the cable mod . I have decided to let the Arctic Silver 5 Quote:

When you lap your CPU and HSF, you really shouldn't use much TIM. As there both pretty flat and have a good enough contact.

Who ever said use a Polish? Wont that fill the micro gaps with the polish to make it shine and not let the thermal paste set in it's place?

Yeah.. if AS5 don't work well, Use the arctic cleaner stuff and remove the polish, and use TX-2
![]() Or just re-apply with as5, and repost in a few days if it had a difference But personally, if i had the first set of temps.. i wouldn't have even did the extra lapping...

Actually I dont think it made your CPU temps worse. If you look at all your temps, they all went up, and that can't be because of the reseat. Your ambients have probably gone up or something else happened anyways.

BEFORE in winter i had load temps of 49c. Now i have load temps of 61c And i used to leave the window open i still do that.... IT sucks i know. IF u really want ur temps off knock off the IHS... but then u gotta figure out how the heatsink will touch with the socket in the way....
