Default How big are the Easy PC Lapping Kits?

Got a quick question I know people here can answer. I was thinking of ordering this premium kit and was wondering how big the glass is and how big each piece of sandpaper is and what you thought about the quality.

I just wanted to compare it with SVC's

http://www.svc.com/lapkit.html

http://www.svc.com/lapkit-p.html (with hard surface, glass?)

Thanks.

I think the SVC one has a lower grit one, which would be good for heatsinks...

the glass and paper are 4 1/2" x 5 1/2". its basically only big enough for one use.

edit: the quality was ok, the kit is also ok. if i did it all over again, i would get the sand paper from the auto store. the paper is bigger and you get more of it.

Try a local Reno-depot, Rona, or any other hardware store. They have grits from around 180 to at least 600-800. Cost me under a buck for a full sheet.

Yep, the kits are great. One kit was enough for me to lap my CPU IHS and CPU waterblock, I had to buy another kit for my gpu and nb waterblocks. The guy that runs that place is super nice as well.

I wasn't impressed with the SVC premium kit myself. they chopped down the papers so small that it was hard to tape down and have any surface area left. Also, the papers weren't labeled as to the grit, so when it got down to the finer grits, it was difficult to determine which one was more fine. I ended up screwing up and going backwards in progress on the last papers. Also, the refill kit comes with the same stuff. Just rummage around your house for a picture frame with glass in it to save yourself a few bucks.

Those are a rip off. Like mentioned previously, just buy them at an auto parts store or a walmart or something. I bought enough sandpaper to do like 20+ laps for about the same price.

I'd imagine that the guy selling those kits just buys normal sandpaper from a hardware store (maybe he buys in bulk) then cuts it up and sells it for a huge profit.

My hands have thermal dissipation of 326W, so I'd probably get better temps than the TRUE if I just pressed my hand against the naked Q6600.
Im up for trying this on a 45nm C2D
