I for one will congratulate you on the lap job and mod, as I know from personal experience that achieving good results with air cooling can take time and in many cases lots of patience (especially when it comes to lapping the TRUE)
__________________I for one am in favour of water cooling but as said above it can be quite expensive which is why many of us air cool just like I am for now, sticking with the TRUE. From what I can tell Adrienspawn is only showing everyone here at OCN his personal success with air cooling, he's not saying that it beats all watercooling setups, He is saying that for not a lot of money it can do a pretty god job competing with SOME water cooling systems

The heatpipes should be copper.
__________________Anyway, with regards to the whole air vs. water debate, it should be possible to get an air cooler that performed as well as or better than the best water cooling setups. Heatpipes are generally more efficent than water at moving heat around, so all you would need is an external heatsink with a greater surface area than the largest radiators. Not practical, but possible.

Games don't usually stress the CPU as much as say Orthos or Prime. It's not like the game will be putting full load on all the cores.
As long as you keep pushing relatively low volts on the chip, and your room temp. stays reasonably low, that TRUE will keep it cool. The heatsink itself can dissipate a more than modest amount of heat, so it should be able to handle a substantial vcore increase, as long as the room temps. remain constantly low. If your room temperatures start increasing (80*F or so) efficiency will decrease; if that happens don't be surprised if you start loading at as much as 35*C above ambient. Air coolers, no matter how good they are, are more delicate towards changes in surrounding temperatures, than a water cooling system.

And would a 6C difference in ambient really bring my load up by nearly 20C? I doubt the effects are that dreadful. Besides my ambients will only go up by 1 or 2 as summer goes on, but that will give me an excuse to open the windows. Then comes Montreal winters with their occasional -35C. I used to hate this city's weather, now I love it :P.

You'd be surprised. I got a PC with a TRUE inside the house, which is temperature controlled. With a room temp. of 27*C it keeps an Opty 165 w/1.4V at a modest 45*C; but if I move that PC to my back office, which is always slightly warmer (2-3*C), then the thing starts loading at 50-55*C.
