The 9700 is great! Keeps my P4 560J at a cool 52C idle!
Yeah the 9700 is getting a bit old. For the same price (if that's your limit) there's the TRUE.

The Zalman CNPS 9700 is highly dependent on an excellent front-to-back airflow in the case. If that's the case, it's a most excellent cooler than can rival almost anything out there.
Ther TRUE (and the Tuniq Tower and other cooler with a nice 120mm fan) is more like a workhorse that performs under any circumstances. Thus, if you have a great front-to-back airflow, the Zalman is a nice choice. However, in most cases, the TRUE is the winner.

Is it me or did you mess up on painting?
Anyways, the TRUE will perform better, and since they're basically at the same price, I would go for the TRUE. However, the Zalman is smaller, and weighs less, so it won't put as much strain on the mobo. I'd still get the TRUE though, but that's just my opinion.

Hmm, I was thinking of getting one, but I have an Antec 900, with that huge fricken fan right above it. Does it still work if you rotate it 90 degrees?

Erm, there'a an exhaust fan on the back too, so basically the airflow is sloping upwards, so rotating it 90 degrees wouldn't help. I'd just recommend you get the TRUE.

just rotate it so the fan on the TRUE blows out the top exhaust fan or the rear fan. it will work both ways. i just like it mounted vertically as opposed to horizontally
