Default Q9450 OCCT temps

What temperature is safe for my cores?

As we should all know, we have 5 temp readings pertaining to the CPU.

CPU
CPU Core #1
CPU Core #2
CPU Core #3
CPU Core #4

I've been told to go off the CPU temp and that core temps don't matter. Is this true?

When using OCCT, it shuts down after 3 minutes because my system is too hot. Yet, OC'd to 3.49ghz, my temperature right now is idling at 32/33C 34/34C if I have my window closed. That seems like a fine temperature to idle at. Under 100% load, that temp rises to about 55C. Which, again, is fine for load. Yet OCCT shuts down because one of my cores reaches 80C

Is 80C safe for a core to run at, if CPU is at 55C?

That's a little odd. Post a screen shot if you can.

The temps on mine are somewhat goofy as well, cores 0 and 2 won't go below 35C due to stuck sensors.

As you can see, that's just 3ghz. 3.8ghz reaches it sooner.

80c is too hot really ,
you could try reseating your cooler to see if that makes any difference ,
have a look here
http://www.overclock.net/water-cooli...u-temps-2.html

for some hints on how to apply the thermal compound
I use artic silver 5 (takes 200hours odd to settle in ) and also too much can cause high temps too
also i believe 'occt and coretemp' may have problems reading 45nm core temps

what vcores are you using as again the 45nm cores do not go as high as the 65nm like the q6700 and q6600 .
I seem to remember 1.35vcore is as high as they go
where as the 65nm is 1.50vcore

and 'realtemp' should be used

but I may have coretemp and real temp mixed up LOL

Realtemp is the one that gives correct core readings. However, I use Everest to measure the CPU reading (like shown in the motherboard hardware monitor page) and I tend to go off that for my shutdown temperature.

My vCore is probably about 1.35v

^^^^What he said.

You're not at 68C you're at 58C.

But in my personal opinion that seems to still be running a little hot.

Yeh that is hot, all 4 of my cores at 100% are running at 47C. they do idle at 32C though.

Nope. I'm at 68. OCCT lets you choose a variety of programs to use for monitoring. I use Everest and isolate just the CPU temp (which right now is at 34C. There's no way it's actually 24C)
