I nead to get a better cpu cooler but I would like one that that goes with my case. so besides being black what is better about the true?

The fact that it is one of the best air coolers in the market. The black version is just for eyecandy. The TRUE and black TRUE perform the same.

how hard is it to lap eather of the coolers?/ what grit paper should I stat with?

It's pretty straightforward and easy.

Start off with anything around 18-280, and gradually climb about 200 grits per sheet up to about 1500grit, maybe going up to 2000 or 2500 but only if you want a mirror finish.

First check for flatness with a utility knife blade in many angles to see how much light you can see.Then start with a pc. of glass double face tape it to a table or bench.Tape the ends of sandpaper to glass.Start with 220 grit to save time and clean off the top layer,just go up 220,400,800,1000,1500,in a circlular motion,use blade to check often.Your going for flatness not really gloss.Just the basics go on youtube there are a few good showings there,imo
