I almost picked up a 7" table fan to put in my rig xD

It didn't seem so bad with a $9.99 price tag on it... if it's still there my this Saturday, I'm definitely picking it up.

ok so I just spent like 45 mins looking for this thread I saw a while back where this guy just mounted one of those blowers on the side of his case...it worked for him I guess. I also have one of these industrial style blowers I found out in a old shed. I use it all the time for things in my room. all I did was mod a plastic tupperwear lid to mount a dryer hose to the blower output and then I can pipe it wherever I want. when im gaming hard I open my case on both sides and just let it blow!

the only problems I have had is that after about 20 min the housing around the motor gets really hot and im afraid im gonna blow it up. im not sure if this is normal...its an old blower and im sure it needs more then just wd40 sprayed in the oil hole

yep thats pretty much what I do...I can see a few things you want to keep in mind though...dust! mod yourself some kind of panty hose dust catcher for the intake of your blower. if you pull it tight enough you wont slow down the blower at all. also I think I read somewhere that you shouldnt restrict the output of the blower becouse it can burn out the motor. although if you want less airflow you can make the intake smaller...(not sure why you would want to do that but I figured it was good info).

basicly as long as you have a large enough output in your case you should be fine. you just dont want too much pressure in your case or to restrict the output of your blower.

oh and one other thing...my blower came with 3 bare wires and I just spliced them to a normal wall plug, however for 5 bucks you can buy a dimmer switch like the ones you see on the wall for turning down a light. it is easy to mount to a box of some kind even your case or whatever.

See I can do that, but that isn't what I'm going for, I have a wonderful Rocketfish case to mod, and well this kind of thing seems like the perfect mod!
As for blowing right on the CPU / GPU thats what I'm aiming for, but I'm running into the problem of deciding where exactly to have it.
Say I have it come from the rear, well the pics I've seen don't show much room back there, so that doesn't seem smart, If I go from the side, which seems most logical I still have this big 1.5horse hanging off the side of my door. If I go from the top, which I'm starting to like the most, has a few downfalls also, the motor will mostlikely hang off to the side of the case.

Thats very much a possibility, but to make this a little more well SWEET, I'm thinking of possibly adding a relay to switch the blower on depending on case temps, maybe jacking it through the Mobo fan connection ports, though that someone would need to help me out on!

As to this blower getting hot, I've sat it on for quite a while, not much heat at all. BUT it is an energy hog! Now my though and as I stated ealier if I just switch this on when say I start playing a DX10 game that really pushes some heat out that would be perfect!

Sure and I had tried that, but its no where near the same, this thing BLOWS a heck of a lot more air, and the wonderful thing is when I put a lot of restriction on it, it'll still push the air through, kinds of like attacting a heatsink slows the amount of airflow on a fan; well this thing handles it fine.

AS for the grammar wars, really IT doesn't matter! But from what I know it would be "too" in the sentence.

THANKS all for the replies! Its great to see some intrest in my little backyard experiment!

Your turbo blower should be an exhaust because it's better to have 1000cfm of hot air going out than mixing around 1000cfm of hot air inside the case.

I do agree it would be a good idea to put the blower right over the CPU as an intake, but you should find a way to exhaust 1000CFM...unless you're going to leave the case open.
Do you even need THAT strong of a blower? How loud is it?

On a side note:

you're = you are
your = possessive
they're = they are
their = possessive
it's = it is

Everyone = singular, not plural!!

Don't have any to record its sound, but lets just say an AC = quite a lot louder, but it does make a fair amount of sound.

Till I have the case in my hands where I can attempt to place the blower into the case I can't say I can even run it as exaust!

And theres many ways to cause more exaust at least I think, sure its blowing a lot of air, but there has to be a way to peice this thing together and have it look decently portable / professional!

I guess its best just to wait tell you get the case and see if you cant fit the whole fan inside then...that sounds like what your going for...if you do end up figuring out how to hook it up to your mobo I would love to see how its done...oh and dont forget to give out reps for people that help ya! we love +reps!

Nice!

...or you could just finagle one of the industrial blowers off the back of this truck, port it to your rig and have at it:

So in answer to OPs question: Aircooling how far is too far?

Answer: Never far enough!!!

What you have to be worried about with the huge fan is static electricity.
