If that's your goal, then yes you'll need a powerful fan. I'd recommend the Ultra Kaze or any 120mmx38mm fan. I haven't tried any of the ones others recommended so can't comment. You'll also probably have to lap both the cpu and the heatsink.

Yes, that's the case I have. You're going to have to either move the fan to the outside (which I think is really ugly) or you're going to have to:

a) buy a new thinner 250mm fan (the blades will hit the top of the heatpipes)
if you keep the stock fan, you're going to have to grind down the fan wall to make it thinner
b) certain parts of the fan wall will still interfere with the heatpips so you're going to have to either cut out sections of the wall or dremmel it out.

I have the 3000rpm Ultra Kaze on my TRUE. I run it at 1530 and it stays pretty quiet. My E8400 is idling at 29C with it...i highly recommend.

So why not just get the 2000RPM version?

Depends on whether you care about noise or not.

well from wut i hear ya don't notice anything much above 3.6ghz, so that'd be fine i guess. do you guys think the ultra kaze 2000 would do good enough to get me that far?

@sunburn39- how thin would a new fan need to be? could you recommend a good one, that still has the blue leds? thanks

oh, also my true will be ordered lapped, and i'll be usin' as5 but i don't know if i'll lap the e8400 yet or not

My appologies, I read your original post wrong. I thought you said you were getting the Q6600. The e8400 should OC very nicely. I've seen many hit 4ghz. The kaze 2000 will be fine.

It really only needs to be a few mm thinner. The blades just BARELY touch the tops. The main problem is the side wall interfering with the heatpipes. Petra's Tech Shop sells a very nice 250mm fan and with blue LEDs. (btw the stock fan doesn't have LEDs, it's a little mis-leading since all the pics make it look like they do) This fan is quite a bit thinner so the blades won't be a problem anymore, but you'll probably still need to cut out parts of the side wall so that they don't interfere with the heatpipes. You can either use a dremmel or just use wire cutters and snip sections away. It's not pretty, but you can't see it anyway. Another other option is to buy the version without the side fan. It fits the regular Armor fine.

I'd see how your temps are before you lap the cpu. Being dual core + 45nm, it won't generate that much heat, even when OC.
