You're right, it is rubbish.

Counteless people get amazing results, its NOT the cooler, alright? Stop saying the cooler is rubbish, please.

What are your ambient temperatures? What vcore are you using? And take a picture of the amount of paste you've applied as this is almost always the issue.

You may also need to lap the cooler, one reason I'm not a huge fan of the TRUE. It's an amazing cooler, you just have to WORK to get it there

I've just bought this cooler based on recommendations from here.

I can't be arsed taking a picture of the amount of paste I'm using because that would mean taking my case out, taking the cooler off, cleaning the paste off and then taking pictures. I've done that twice today already. I've read countless times that you should use about a grain of rice worth and that's what I've used twice. I've repositioned the cooler. All I haven't tried is lapping, because I don't ahve 10 different sorts of sandpaper at hand.

It's certainly better than my Gemini II. Already I'm at lower temperatures on this overclock.

The ambient temp in here is, errr,. pretty cool, to be honest.

I have two front intake fans.

It's an Antec P182

I'm using Everest (don't suggest realtemp because it doens't have CPU temp, only core temp) To measure the CPU temp. As far as I know it measures the diode as does my motherboard.

My vCore is at 1.248v

Perhaps OCCT is just crap. My temper was teetering on 57/58C, then jumped to 65C and then 68, then eventually 69. Whilst Everests Stability test ran for 5 minutes (two minutes longer than OCCT) and was pretty stable at running at 58C. Which would be great.

It's too bad you're having a bad experience with the TRUE, but more than enough people get excellent results from it, even unlapped. You've stated it's already better than your old cooler. If you think it's rubbish, just return it and try a different cooler. I think you'll be hard pressed to find an air cooler that will perform substantially better. Something that isn't "rubbish".

I haven't seen the deleted posts, but the ones that remain, everyone, believe it or not, are trying to help you out, but it comes off like you can't be bothered with some of the recommendations or questions. If you think you've done more work than you should already, the best option would be to buy yourself another cooler.

The core temp is really the only thing you should be concerned about. CPU temp is most likely just the tcase. It's the cores you want to monitor. Either way, Everest's core temps are fairly accurate.

I don't think Shin2k35 should be vilified for reporting his experience with a particular product, to be honest. In my opinion, we have to give the end user the benefit of the doubt when he/she says that the product is installed properly; we shouldn't get into a defensive posture if a "favored product" isn't working for someone.

It's entirely possible that Shin2k35 got an Ultra 120 Extreme with a seriously misshapen base; combined with a similarly uneven IHS, it's easy to see how temperatures can be so high.

I've got experience with an Ultra 120 Extreme, and as many here have already said, it has to be lapped in order for it to perform properly. Without lapping, it's pretty underwhelming, to be honest (as Shin2k35 is finding).

Don't slam the messenger, please; instead, consider his message first and foremost and address that.

Wow has no one pointed this out yet? If I'm not mistaken the Q9450 is a 45nm chip and temps should be read using realtemp. OCCT and most other programs, will show about 10c above what it actually is. The cooler is not rubbish actually you have great temps for that kind of overclock.

Well, update.

I've just gone and moved some fan's around. They're all in the same position, but I've got my old blue LED fans from ym A900 set in the top two fan sockets for the P182, so the blue lights are shining through the top. Looks rather nice.

I cleaned the heatsink and CPU again and reset them. Upon booting up I was greeted with 31C idle.

Now, I know realtemp is the only program avaliable at the moment that gives correct core temp readings. And I'm using Everest+ OCCT (there's an option in OCCT to set which external program monitors temperatures) to read just the CPU temp (as Everest also gives 10C above the correct reading) Also, when I do look at the core temps when using Everest, I take 10C off the reading to compensate, seeing as we know that they're 10C higher.

I think this cooler is going the trick. I was very frustrated earlier but after reading a lot of the replies here I've come to the conclusion that I should give the paste a while to settle and then start to moan about it =D

Also, Intel say that the coretemps aren't too important and it's the tcase CPU diode you should look out for.
