Also note in the photos ... I combined the washer mod with the bolt through mod so as to keep the metal brackets from touching the motherboard once torqued down. I couldn't stand the fact that my TRUE spun around so easy ... the bolt through mod totally eliminated any spin action. Gonna have to break it all down today as I'm going to lap my Q6700. Should be fun. ![]()

Hey s1rrah, you mind posting a source link to that entire process? Thanks.
I did the washer mod with mine, but it's still twisting around more than I like. And I'm at 33c STOCK!! And everything's lapped! So I need to do the bolt through. Although I've never seen it first secured with nuts at the bottom to keep it in place. That's an awesome idea. That's definitely worth a Rep!

As a second thought, though: I really like the idea of being able to remove my TRUE without the bracket underneath the MB getting all out of place. That's probably my one biggest complaint about this whole process. But with the bolt through along with a few nuts right at the base, the screws are always right there. It's so hard to plug in the CPU power on the board as well as put in that corner screw with the TRUE installed. It would be so much easier to put the board in the case, and THEN screw in the TRUE. Yathink?

It's optimal to mount the heatsink perfectly and then secure it without moving, but that never happens. It's ok for it to move around a little when you're securing it. As long as it doens't lose contact (ie. you lift it off the cpu) you should be fine. Before the washer mod, I re-adjusted mine a few times after mounting it to get it to fit properly in my case (and sometimes by accidently bumping it a few degrees when installing over components. Didn't affect my temps at all. Nothing to worry about.
