why even bother to compare it to Xigmatek S1283 when Noctua needs a higher rpm fan and 1 extra heatpipe to get close to the performance of S1283 or TRUE? Add or change a stronger fan on S1283 will yields even better result and cost less.

A) What if you wanted to know which was the best cooler if you were going to use a high RPM fan? Then the noctua would be your choice.
B) I don't even know what you mean about heatpipes, it has LESS heatpipes than those coolers yet performs better..?

also...judging from how bad it got whopped by TRUE, S1283, V2 on reviews, I am pretty sure the outcome will be the same if you test them with higher output fan.

My mistake, I thought the Xigmatek had 4 heatpipes like the Noctua.

Changing the fan speed makes a huge difference. You may think that with a low RPM fan if one cooler wins, and both coolers are treated to the same amount of airflow increase that the results will be the same. However, this is where fin density and other factors come into play.

There are several reviews where the TRUE and Rifle outperform the Noctua, sure. I don't disagree. But there are also reviews that show the other way around. There is no "whopping" going on, in all cases they are within a few degree's of each other.

Whats weird to me, is that in the early release of the NH-U12P it was always paced behind the TRUE and such. However lately, I've seen 2 or 3 reviews show that the Noctua is starting to outperform these coolers. There wasn't a revision of the NH-U12P that I missed or anything, was there?

I've got a noctua u-12-p too, it performs just very well with my q6600!
I've never seen a cpu cooler, who is able to compete with this one
...but I'm from austria so I've got no problems with it's availability.

I am thinking about getting this cooler, but it is a bit expensive. I am getting a Q6600 and overclocking it to at least 3.2 GHz. Should I stay with this cooler or go to a cheaper one like the Tuniq Tower? How does the Noctua compare with the Tuniq?

Unless you change the fan on the Noctua the Tuniq would perform a little bit better (~2-5C), but I would go with the Xigmatek HDT-1283 or Vendetta 2 (both with bolt-kits) for the good value.
