i think i read that too, but the true performs much better when lapped, which most people dont have the time to do. i wouldnt lap anything cause i would be too afraid i would screw it up. the true also doesnt come with a fan.

Yeah the fan thing sucks, I wouldn't have a major problem with lapping but being a student, cost is an issue. According to the reviews on that site you linked, The OCZ Vendetta 2 is the best atm. Of the three, keeping in mind that im on a budget and based on my sig rig, which would you reccomend as the best choice? Also I may go quad in the next few months, so thats a thought to.

probably the vendetta, one of the 120mm xigmateks, true, or noctua. i think they are all very good coolers. i am biased of course on having bought the noctua yesterday, but it does do a very good job. hopefully your question will be seen by some other members and they can give you their opinions too.

Since its just a dualie then the Xigmatek would be perfect for it. Or the Vendetta 2 if you can nab the rebate.

You're right, the TRUE gets better and better compared to others the more voltage you add, but even at lower voltages it's still king next to the IFX-14 when lapped. Beat the Vendetta 2 by 2-3C when both used the TRUE's bolt-thru kit, and about 5C without the kit.

http://www.overclock.net/air-cooling...1283-true.html

The performance of the TRUE is actually identical to the IFX-14 so you can pit it alongside the HDT-1283 as well.

Keep in mind I wana grab a Q6600 or something this side of xmas. If it'll handle them fine then i may just be getting one. Using a CM Sphere atm which is C**P! E6300@2.62 with 1.35v and at max load (using OCCT for a stress test) its like 59c. However when smp folding at 100% both cores, it only hits about 51c max lol

MMM TRUE, I so want, but they're so expensive!

In that case a Vendetta 2 would be a good compromise. But if you decide to get a Penryn or Nehelem later on instead of a C2Q then the Xigmatek would still be good. And for the TRUE if you look around you can see them for 45$ sometimes and that inlcudes the bolt-thru kit. The Vendetta 2 is 50$ normally without the kit, but often they have a rebate that brings it down to 30-35.

This guy has a relevant speech:

My only concern with the Xigmatek is the push-pins (solved with a bolt-though kit for $7) and the contact plate. Upon closer inspection, I saw that, like the Vendetta 2, the heat pipes extend to the CPU itself. Is this going to cause an uneven surface going from heat pipe to plate? Additionally, there seems to be 3 of the same cooler. The HDT-RS1283, the HDT-S1283, and the HDT-S1284EE. They seem exactly the same, barring the red LED fan the RS1283 comes with. I'm not sure which to get.

The HDT-RS1283 and HDT-S1284EE both go for $40, plus 9 bucks for shipping, but then the bolt-though kit comes along, for $7, and another $7 for shipping. It's $64 total, then. The HDT-S1283, however costs $37 plus $9 for shipping, $14 for the bolt-through and shipping. Total: $60. Seems nice enough, but for 4 bucks less, is there much of a difference in cooling?

As for the Vendetta 2? It costs $60 shipped, and I bet the bolt-though kit's going to add at least $14 shipped. No way I'm paying $74 on a heatsink.

I still like the Tuniq's uniqueness and all. Seeing as it's $50 total (free shipping) and doesn't need a bolt-though kit, I could end up with it, but we'll have to see.

Within the proposed choices, the TRUE looks like my best heatsink, after all. I just don't know how a shopping experience at SVC will be.
